Is rock suiatable for normal desktop use
Hello,
Im looking for a source based distro for normal desktop use. Can Rock be something for me so I can learn how linux is working ? Roelof |
Hello charlie_lab,
I didn't build Rock yet so i don't know if you learn much about how Linux works from that project. There is another project where you have to build it from source, it's named LFS (linuxfromscratch.org). I spent about 2 weeks in building my own Linux with the LFS Tutorial, and I think I learned a lot how linux works from it. Greetings Endarur |
Hello,
I know taht project. But I find it wierd that you first have to buikd everything to use a package manager and then have to rebuild everything so the packagemanager can work. Roelof |
ROCK contains a KDE3 based desktop distribution named chrystal. In my opinion there is something to learn from ROCK, mostly when you are interested in programming bash scripts.

Oke,
Pity Im a Gnome man and not a KDE man. Roelof |
