I've had problems with Wine on Fedora, which may be related. Wine complains about creating some file or settings and then hangs indefinitely. When I ran winemine, the GUI would appear, but I couldn't click on it. Many other programs yielded similar results.
I've talked to many other Fedora users who have had similar problems. It seems to be an issue with Fedora itself and may very well apply to Red Hat. Since that time, I've run many programs on Ubuntu and Gentoo without a hitch.
When I posted on forums regarding this problem, I've received responses to the effect of Fedora's kernel patching interfering with Wine. I don't know if the claims hold water or not, but there's something about the Wine/Fedora combination that doesn't play nicely. I've tried compiling from source, but I get the same results.
A lot of people are having this problem. The older versions of Wine seem to work, but the newer ones have conflicts with Fedora's kernel, from what I'm told.
