Where is the shell interactive for ruby languaje?

Hi everybody!

Mi box: Red Hat 9.0, Pentium III

Recently I installed from CDs the Language-Ruby's packages:
- ruby-1.6.8-5.i386.rpm
- ruby-devel-1.6.8-5.i386.rpm
- ruby-docs-1.6.8-5.i386.rpm
- ruby-libs-1.6.8-5.i386.rpm
- ruby-mode-1.6.8-5.i386.rpm
- ruby-tcltk-1.6.8-5.i386.rpm

when I type "ruby" and then enter a command the sistem works OK.
But this kind of entering commands is not an interactive way.

I worked with ruby in MS Windows and there exist a shell interactive called "irb".

When I tried to use the shell interactive for ruby in Red hat entering the command "ruby irb" as I do on MS Windows, the system didn't respond.

I looked for the script irb.rb but I can't find it. It seems not to be in the system.

My question to you my fellows is:

I miss the script irb.rb during the installation or there is another way to call the shell interactive in Red Hat 9.0?

I just used irb command alone but no way.

-----------------
$ irb
bash: irb: command not found

or

$ ./irb
bash: ./irb: Non exist the file or directory
----------------------

I am thinking that Ruby in Red Hat Linux doesn't have an interactive shell as Ruby for Cygwin has.

when in doubt... maybe try
locate irb | more
see if it turns up somewhere that maybe isnt in your path

or
install ruby from source
i cant advise on red-hat specifics as it is not my distro of choice... i installed it from source and irb was there by default..... its a fairly simple compile and install. maybe someone more familiar with redhat can tell you whether or not it is included.....

well hopefully that helps a bit

Thank you for your help CoolChEEzE.

The command "locate irb|more" didn't find irb file.

Now I'll try to install Ruby from source.

Just to say that my problem has been resolved.

It was not necessary to install Ruby from source.

Result that today I found the interactive Ruby package in a different CD. The package is called "irb-1.6.8-5.i386.rpm". I didn't image that the interactive Ruby was a separate package. And besides it doesn't has the word "ruby" in his name.

Thanks anyway for the answers.
