Where is my device?

[root@xxxxxxx etc]# cat redhat-release
CentOS release 5.5 (Final)

I do:

[root@dc02vg0265na /]# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hdv1 168G 40G 126G 24% /

but in /dev/ there is no hdv1 listed. Where is it?

In dev besides all the 'tty's there is:

cgroup fd full log mapper null ptmx pts random shm stderr stdin stdout urandom zero

Thanks! Trying to setup nagios to monitor the disk but it says it can't find /dev/hdv1

Just a guess, but is this a virtual server perhaps hosted with Linux-Vserver? If so, there is a level of virtualization at play that may make it difficult to access this device. I had never seen the hdv naming scheme for drives and was googling for it. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with Linux-Vserver, but I'd be curious to know more.

I did not setup the server but yes I think it might be a VM - I have no idea what platform though. I could ask my hosting company but I was hoping to figure it out for myself.

Thanks for the reply!

Also be AWARE that CentOS 5.5 is and has been unsupported for a long time
sense it went END OF LIFE on "2011-04-08" -- April 2011
Warning:
CentOS 5.5 has had NO security updates in almost TWO YEARS

CentOS 5.9 is the current in the older 5 series with CentOS 6.3 the current in the current 6 series
