As a guess I would say they are in /usr/src/redhat/RPMS. Check all of the directories in /usr/src/redhat.

Hi, try this one:
/var/spool/up2date
The headers and rpm's should go here by default.
But here is the trick you are probably looking for. In the man page for up2date you will see 2 options that may help you:
-d download only
--tmpdir=<directory>
So what you could do, is run the up2date -du (or up2date -duf if you need kernel updates)
then back up the /var/spool/up2date dir as you are trying. Alternatively, you could use the --tmpdir to specify an alternative directory if you want.

I had a look here before but only found the headers. It would appear as though the default setting wit u2d is to not store the binaries after installation.
Which leads to the next question: How do I get to re-download packages that I have already installed?

You're right, they are not stored after they are installed. For this one, I would suggest that you log into the RHN web site and you can manually download the packages in .rpm format.
Simply find the package you are looking for (on the correct channel) then you should see a "download" section that list's the rpm and srouce rpm filenames after selecting the rpm-version you are looking for.
