Angry weird problem with ethernet


i installed a nic and it detected fine. everytime i start up it says "link not present... check cable?" the cable is in fine and when i go to activate the card it does that fine and i go to the terminal and i type ifconfig and i get an ip address and everything. the problem is that it still wont let me connect to the internet after all of this. i'm really lost.

Exactly what ifconfig command are you typing? ifconfig by itself just prints out the current settings and doesn't set anything up.

Howzit

If you are sutr that your nic is working are you able to ping other machines on your network if you have another machine to ping. The next step try deactivating your FW as this may be blocking access to the internet
