Smile Wavs and Midis won't play?

I have Red Hat Linux and was wondering ..why my cd player won't play wavs? When I click on the wav it says.. Application "gnome-sound-recorder" has crashed due to a fatal error? How can I fix this? I'm new to Linux. Thanks!

Can you play any type of sound file? Is your soundcard even configured? What about other sound playing applications?

Okay, so cd's work. Do you even have wav support installed? What about any other types of sound files, besides cd's?

Play the wav files with xmms, make sure you configure it first, look at plug ins,do not run the cd player and xmms at the same time, david
