VNC Redhat 9 and remote display

I have a new installation of redhat 9 that i want to control from my windows desktop where i do all my Flash programming.

I installed vnc on the linux box. started the server... then went to the win desktop to run vncviewer. It asks for my password...and then i see a message "please wait - initial screen loading" followed by a yellow crosshatch blank desktop with my x cursor showing.

I tried vncviewer with both screen number and port number and also via http. All give the same results....a blank yellow crosshatch desktop with an x cursor showing.

I edited the .vnc/xstartup to start a gnome-session...and am using the same screen resoluting and density on both the win and linux boxes.

I am missing some little thing...but for the life of me...I have looked at everything I can find and i am finally calling for help.

Save me from myself. Thanks in advance.

You wont get the same desktop as you normally see when you log into your linux box locally. What the VNCServer does is creates another desktop, home directory, and programs, for anyone who connects to that computer. What you may try is connecting to screen 0:0, which is the default screen you use when you are locally logged it.

Hope this helps,
