USB devices: migrating from Suse to Red Hat

Have code on Suse that uses the output from hwinfo --usb to collect info on the USB devices, and it uses the unique ID from that to look up the device information in /etc/fstab

Need to do something similar on Red Hat, but can't find anything in output from kudzu that will let me correlate it to the /etc/fstab entry.

I also see there is an updfstab command that will update the entries in fstab, but all it seems to add is kudzu to the options list.

Any suggestions appreciated ..

Depends on what version of RHL you're looking at. Under RHEL-3 or equivalent you would have 'devlabel' which comes with the 'scsi_unique_id' command but not note different versions of devlabel have also different versions of scsi_unique_id wrt output. Under FC(n > 3)? and RHEL-4 you would have HAL which has a similar tool and is way more versatily in that you have different ID's to help you say mount devices. Of course you can also use Udev and write custom rules to mount devices to where you want them to. If this isn't what you're looking for, then since you're talking about the method, maybe telling us what you're trying to accomplish instead could shine a light on things....
