Smile url rewriting in localhost

Hello

I'm getting an evaluation copy of Red Hat Multi OS Desktop 5. I'm a Web Developer so I'll be using it to set up LAMP on one of my hard drives. I'll be seeing what Red Hat Desktop is like for developing web sites before uploading them to a shared hosting web host.

How do I setup url rewriting on localhost with Apache? Is there a good tutorial for this anywhere?

Also, if I test web sites in Windows in a virtual machine on Red Hat Multi OS will I need to do a seperate Apache configuration just for that Windows OS as well? Or can I just set the Windows browser (i.e. Internet Explorer and Firefox etc) to the localhost on the Red Hat desktop itself?

Thanks
