upgrade from redhat 7.3--no xwindows

I am having some problems with my upgrade from redhat 7.3 to redhat 9.0. My monitor was not detected initially for using xwindows. So, gdm configured my monitor for me and now there is some type of memory problems where my monitor can not refresh fast enough and I get bits and pieces of gui's left over after starting programs or quickly moving gui windows with my mouse. So I tried my reliable 'Xconfigurator' program, but soon came to realize that redhat 9.0 does not have this program. I tried different adjustments with using the display gui, but I am still having problems.

Weird huh? Any suggestions?

Peace

Try the

setup

program

There is a tool called as redhat-config-xfree86 that can be used to configure the GUI settings. If this dos not help, contact again.

I tried several things such as redhat-config-xfree86 and setup. The redhat-config-xfree86 was the same as the display tool in the gnome toolbar. I also tried added options to my XF86Config file that specifically tell X to use my old SDRAM. Now I am starting to wonder if I do not have enough video ram to handle this server? I haven't seen many people with this problem before.

any other suggestions?

How much RAM do you have?

8Mb I think.

I reinstalled redhat 9 fresh to try and solve the problem (after backing up of course). This did fix some of the problem but the screen is still slow to refresh when moving windows. This was never a problem with the XFree86 version that came with RH 7.3.

any suggestions?
