Unusually wide screen display as guest vm

I'm new to this forum and new to Linux for sure.

I installed Red Hat as VM guest on Virtual PC 2007 and after the installation reboot, at the login screen, the display is very wide and can't even see the half part of it. I did reinstall and select the display this time to Dell laptop 1280 display but after the reboot to complete the installation, the display changed to very wide and can't see the half part to complete the installation. I also installed this as guest in Virtual Server and the same display.

I am running windows xp sp2 on Dell Latitude D600.

Thanks for any help.
