Uninstalling GNOME?

so i see why KDE seems to be more popular then GNOME. i sure like it better anyway, but at the time of install i didnt know so i just picked GNOME at random. doesnt seem like theres much sense in keeping it on my machine is there? however when i go into add remove packages, it doesnt give me the option of taking it all off. just lets me uninstall optional packages, but the main packages seem like they are permanent. is this the case?

if you have apt-get on your system, simply remove libgnome2-0: it will remove all depending packages (actually some applets don't have correct dependacies). If not, searc for a rpm script / option to recursevely uninstall.

Don't uninstall anything Gnome or KDE related unless you know exactly what your uninstalling Many, many (did I say many?) programs need shared libraries that are a part of gnome. Just switch to KDE and let gnome hide on your hard drive
