Unable to detect onboard LAN on i915 board with RHL9.0
Hi!
I recently purchased a new machine P4 with i915 motherboard. This PC has
onboard LAN card. I installed RHL 9.0 on it, and the installation went
ahead peacefully. When it came to detecting LAN card ... BANG! It's just
not able to detect it! Did anyone face this problem? How shall I go about
it? Any help/tip is highly appreciated!
Thanks,
Atul.

Troubleshooting
Use dmesg and lspci to try to discover the true identity of the onboard lan card. From there, you may be able to load a module with modprobe, or compile a 2.6 kernel with the driver built in.

I checked up the dmesg and lspci output. There is nothing particular in dmesg output regarding the detection of onboard lan card. lspci lists "Ethernet device" of "Intel" but says that it "failed to load proper driver for eth0 - there is no such device". BTW, I found that the /etc/modules.conf had following entry (which doesn't seem to work anyway):
alias eth0 3c5xxx
I tried all options for 3c5* (the driver modules under /lib/modules/...), but none of them work either.

can you give the output of lspci, cause there could be a chance that it's hidden in there somewhere
