unable to bind to rhel5 nis server from rhel6

Hi,

I am having issues trying to bind to a nis server on rhel5 from a rhel6 client. I searched all over google, but unable to found something that helps.

I already stopped iptables and set selinux to permissive mode. I also added ALL:ALL to /etc/hosts.allow , but it still fails to bind.

Whenever I run, system-config-authentication, ypbind will show that it completes ok. All files are updated correctly, /etc/yp.conf , /etc/nsswitch.conf, /etc/sysconfig/network, etc...

Log show its completing correctly:

setsebool: The allow_ypbind policy boolean was changed to 1 by root
dbus: avc: received policyload notice (seqno=11)
dbus: avc: received policyload notice (seqno=11)
dbus: [system] Reloaded configuration
ypbind: NIS domain: example.com, NIS server:

The only strange thing I notice is that, it's not showing any NIS server in the log..

yp.conf shows it's correct:

domain mydomain.com server myserver

I keep getting "ypwhich: Can't communicate with ypbind"

ps -ef shows ypbind is running.

Can you offer some advice and help thanks?

rhel5,

I have had this exact same problem. Look at your /etc/init.d/ypbind file. In my case, it's file size was 0 bytes. I copied another instance of the file from another RHEL 6 server, restarted ypbind, and it found the NIS server imediately.
