The latest kernel version?


Can someone tell me the exact latest kernel version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (with the uname command).

The lastest kernels are;

RHEL4; kernel-2.6.9-34.0.2.EL.src.rpm 07/06/2006
RHEL3; kernel-2.4.21-40.EL.src.rpm 03/06/2006
RHEL2; kernel-2.4.9-e.70.src.rpm 07/12/2006

For instance in Fedora Core 5 a kernel appears as : 2.6.16-1.2122_FC5 would it be 2.6.9-34.0.2_RHEL for Red Hat?

No, the kernels are different one is based on the vanilla kernel 2.6.9 with backports from the upstream vanilla kernels sources and others changes. The other is based on the 2.6.16 vanilla kernel source with backports and other changes. The vanilla kernel layout has changed a few times from the 2.6.9 release and the 2.6.16 release in addition.
