Temporary System Freeze
We recently observed temporary system freezes on our Intel-Redhat 9 machines. The system is put in halt for a few (3-15) seconds, which causes the failure of our time-critical program. Even without our program running or any other workload, the freeze can still be observed with a simple program that records the system clock every second. Mostly the freeze occurs around 4am or 5am in the morning, but sometimes it occurs at random time too.
The freeze occurs on machines with different hardware configurations (Xeon, Pentium III, Pentium II, ...) and different Linux 2.4.20 kernels. The problem exists even on a redhat box that is disconnected from the network.
Could anyone shed a light on this? Thanks
