syslog shows 2 different speeds for the processor and the sys loses time
I started this on the General forum
Here I'm running RH9 on a Dell Laptop with 1 GB RAM 40 GB HD and a 1.6 P4. (it's a dual boot with WinXP) I found these enties in the syslog when trying to find out the bogomips Jan 2 16:21:15 localhost kernel: Detected 1196.488 MHz processor Jan 2 16:21:16 localhost kernel: CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 Mobile CPU 1.60GHz stepping The BogoMIPS also came back with a non standard value for the processor, either way one of the main problems I'm seeing is that the system losses time .... I know I can sync with an outside source to keep the time correct but that is just a symptom of the disease ... I'm looking to cure the disease Anyone got any ideas?? TIA Mike |
I am not very familiar with laptops. I would start by looking at the laptop power management in the BIOS to see if your problem is the laptop trying to cut the power at the wrong times.

Since this is a dual boot machine and the time loss is only happening in RH9 my instincts tell me the problem lays elsewhere; as far as I know the BIOS settings carry over in both OS's.
