Syncing a Sony Clie T615c with RedHat9

Hi

Approximately a week and a half ago I set up my Sony Clie T615c to sync from a USB port to RedHat 9 using J-Pilot 0.99.6. It worked fine. Approximately one week later, I used the GUI Camera Tool to add some pictures to my computer. My Camera plugs into a different USB port than my Clie cradle (which I leave plugged in all the time). A day or so after downloading my pictures out of the camera I tried to hotsync my Clie using J-Pilot. The only difference between this hotsync and my previous one was that I was trying to install some new files onto the Clie as opposed to just syncing my PIM.

This is the message I get from J-Pilot:

pi_bind Invalid argument
Check your serial port and settings
Exiting with status SYNC_ERROR_BIND
Finished

I get the same message all the time now. Whether I am trying to install files or just trying to sync my PIM.

When I try pilot-xfer I get the following message:

[root@localhost dad]# pilot-xfer -b /home/dad/Downloads/Palm
No $PILOTPORT specified and no -p <port> given.
Defaulting to '/dev/pilot'

ERROR: No such device
Unable to bind to port '/dev/pilot'
Please use --help for more information

[root@localhost dad]# pilot-xfer -p /dev/ttyUSB1 -b /home/dad/Downloads/Palm

ERROR: No such device
Unable to bind to port '/dev/ttyUSB1'
Please use --help for more information

I have created the symbolic links to /dev/ttyUSB1 for pilot, palm and visor.

I have changed the security as follows:
chmod 666 /dev/ttyUSB*

I press the hotsync button on the cradle before I issue the commands.

I have tried just about everything I have been able to find through a Google search on this problem but without any luck.

Any help in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Bill Dika

Bill,

Did you ever work out this sync problem. I seem to have the same error message.

I'm trying to get help on syncing my Treo 350 using jpilot on SuSe 9.1 Pro. The error message I get is identical to yours. Specifically:

Syncing on device /dev/ttyS0
Press the HotSync button now
********************************
pi_bind invalid argument
Check your serial port and settings
Exiting with status SYNC_ERROR_BIND
Finished.

This is new problem for me. I used jpilot successfully for months. However, this past weekend, I needed, for the first time, to try to configure my external modem for a dial-up internet connection. To do that, I used the same serial port that I otherwise use for jpilot. Not only was I unsuccessful configuring the modem, but afterwards, when I tried to sync, this error message appeared.

I've since deleted the modem settings, but that does not help. Any idea what the message means, and what I can try to fix it. I'm afraid that I have to admit to being a relative newbie, so I need the instructions in baby steps.

Thanks.

Hi jhimes

I'm sorry but I don't remember much about this. I'm pretty sure I got it going but that was several distributions ago. I'm now using Mandrake 10.1 without any problems. Red Hat is the big player in linux but I don't find the distribution very friendly compared to Mandrake.

Again, sorry that I can't really help you. I have found rebooting my Clie to be helpful in syncing sometimes.

Regards,
Bill Dika
