LinuxQuestions.org - Still working on MA111

Well it would seem as most of the configuring has gone well (havent quite finished but ill know if i messed something up). But im not sure how to run wlan.
The last thing i did was configure wlanconfig_DEFAULT (not sure of the exact name but that should give you an idea) and then duplicated it and renamed it wlanconfig_"MY SSID" (i duplicated and renamed becuase my copy of instruction were somewhat vague about where to place the file.

The next step for me was to go to /etc/init.d and run wlan

this would add wlan0 when i run ifconfig and iwconfig.

I thought i had run wlan but did not do it in a shell (becuase i dont know a "run" command . i did so by good old double-clicking and then choosing both the run and run in terminal options.

But I beleive hat if had run it properly it wlan would have shown up in ifconfig/iwconfig.

Did I not run wlan correctly, or does it same that the problem stems from a possible mistake or missed step earlier in the process?

Also I wanted to say that (lemme know if there is a problem with this.)

To install wlan i used linux 2.6.11.6 kernel and installed and configure it... however i am still running the default redhat 9 2.4.20.* kernel... make config let me use the 2.6.11.6 and linux is still running fine... if neccesary i can switch to the newer kernel .. however im not sure how to do it.
