Slow after Kernel update

Last night I updated my Kernel from:
2.4.20-8
TO:
2.4.20-31.9

After the install the computer started to really really crawl nice and slow, like a turtle. I was wondering how I can get the system to run faster after a kernel update. I can boot to either kernel if that helps.

Any errors in your system logs that could help?

The only errors I came accros were errors on boot that it could detect a cord in eth0, which is because it was unplugged. everything else is clean.

Weird. If you run a current distro try compiling a clean latest 2.4.x. If you run an old version of RHL see if Fedora Legacy has a more current kernel for your release. Else, dunno, maybe first check for load, weird sysctl VM values.
