I am using Linux RedHat 9 and configured the server as a SLIP server.
I am successful in connecting the client to the server but I am not getting the IP so as to communicate.

Did the Following steps:

-Installed an external modem and checked the modem using minicon---successful

-Checked using insmod to see if the module for SLIP are present---module already installed

-Disregarded the configuring on IP Forwarding, as I am only using to connect a client to server; no other mochines on network.*****MAY BE AN ISSUE, BUT I DONT THINK SO

-Installed and Configured the MGETTY rpm and configured the Dialin Service is successful.

-Installed and configured SLIPLOGIN and modified slip.hosts (IP Address), did nothing to slip.login and slip.logout; added one line for client on slip.tty

SLIP.HOSTS

slip 10.20.20.80 10.20.20.81 255.255.255.0 normal -1

SLIP.TTY
------------
/dev/ttys0 10.20.20.81


My only external modem is configured as ttyS0

Can anyone help me with troubleshooting why the client is just getting 0.0.0.0, instead of 10.20.20.81?
