set up a welcome message on my linux box

Hey,

I have accessed my friends linuxbox frequently (suse) and comes up with a welcome message when you log in. Eg

login: asdf
password: *******

thank you for logging on to my computer -- enjoy!

Where is that message? I want to put one on mine, just for fun!

at first I thought the message was in /boot/message, but I looked there and it wasn't .

I have looked in LQ and on Google but I haven't found out how to do it.

can someone help?

thanks
Hamish

Hi,

It is whatever is in the /etc/motd text file.

Edit that with something like vi,

vi /etc/motd

Then logout and log back in!

EDIT: By the way, "motd" stands for Message of the Day.
