serial port maping?

Am running a RedHat9 box under vmware.

When I test connectivety of my serial port /dev/ttyS0 and /dev/ttyS1 it says both is connected.

But the problem is I only have one serial port, which should be map to /dev/ttyS0 (COM1, IRQ4).

Why is /dev/ttyS1 enabled by default? it have IRQ3 but I don't have a (COM2 or COM3)

I am slightly rusty with VMWare now ... If you go into the configs for the RedHat VM, you can enable/disable com ports, mouse, netcards, etc...
