Samba - floppy 3.5" share ?

Hello!

I need to make a floppy share in my linux system, so it will be available as a normal floppy drive in Win XP (thanks to Samba).

Tryied to define as a normal share, then maped to the XP system, but It don't work as I would like to. Windows XP don't see this drive as a normal Floppy drive.

Can it be done?

Don't know for sure if it is possible, but here is a suggest /etc/smb/smb.conf entry:

[floppy]
path = /mnt/floppy/
guest ok = yes
writeable = yes
create mode = 0666
directory mode = 0777
browseable = yes
public = yes

First, make the above change to your smb.conf. Then insert and mount the floppy using

mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy

Then restart samba

killall nmbd
killall smbd

smbd
nmbd

Maybe it will work...

I tryied this erlier, it works, but not as I want to.

After mapping the drive to the windows, it isn't visible as the normal floppy drive, that's why I don't have full access and commands to it for example I can't format the drive from windows ...

Maybe there is any other way to do it? Seen many books about Samba, but haven't found any solution.

It seems samba don't have this possibility ... so how to do that in other way? Any suggestions :PPP
