Question RPMs won't go =(

Everytime i double-click an RPM to get it to go it says "Could not open package" and tells me that i should check the permissions. Even when I'm booted into root and I have all the permissions checked in the GUI it won't go. I'm a complete newb with linux would really like to figure this all out. I downloaded i386 version of the RPMs but I am running an athlon 64 3000+.....I didn't think that would matter and don't know if it does or not =\ Should I try downloading those RPMs again and go for the x86_64 ones???

Arrow

try with rpm command and see what error messages are coming
for using rpm command
open a terminal as root
rpm -ivh package.rpm
