rpm (or .spec file) newbie question

I had looked at some rpm tutorials but still has these questions:
- how to extract (kind of like untar) all the files in a rpm to a directory?
- I created a rpm (.spec file) to install a program and create a symbolic link to it. After I do "rpm -e" to remove the package, the program and symbolic link still exist, how to fix this problem?

Answer to your first question:

rpm –qlp <package>.rpm
Shows the contents of a package but doesn’t extract anything.

rpm2cpio file_to_extract_from.rpm | cpio -i --make-directories [filename_to_extract]
Extracts the contents into the local directory. The “filename_to_extract” would be any of the files shown in the rpm –qlp so that you can extract only what you want.

For question 2, do I do "rm program" and "rm symbolic-link" in my spec file?
Is there a better way?
