RPM and emacs on Redhat Enterprise server

I just got a new server. Only one dvd contains SRPMS, there is no RPMS.

There is no emacs. However, rpm shows the following packages are installed:

emacs-leim-21.4-17
emacs-common-21.4-17
emacspeak-23.0-2.1

I tried

# rpmbuild --rebuild emacs-21.4-17.src.rpm
error: Failed build dependencies:
autoconf213 is needed by emacs-21.4-17.x86_64
libXaw-devel is needed by emacs-21.4-17.x86_64
Xaw3d-devel is needed by emacs-21.4-17.x86_64
libpng-devel is needed by emacs-21.4-17.x86_64
libjpeg-devel is needed by emacs-21.4-17.x86_64
giflib-devel is needed by emacs-21.4-17.x86_64
libtiff-devel is needed by emacs-21.4-17.x86_64

There is no devel packages under SRPMS. I know they can be found online.

But is there a better way? I really just need emacs for editing.

How come Redhat Enterprise does not come with RPM, only SRPM? Is there any where I can download pre-build emacs RPM? If not, is there way to automatically download those devel, which in turn would need a bunch of devel, rpms?

Thanks!

A valid paid subscription to RHN is required for this, since you only have a SRPMS DVD then it seems that you have an unsupported version of Red Hat Emterspise Linux. You have two choices, one is to get a license key from Red Hat and a valid RHN account. Or use one of the freely available Red Hat Enterprise Linux 'clones', CentOS and Scientific Linux comes to mind;

https://www.redhat.com/apps/store/server/rhel.html
(you will something more than a Basic subscription)

This is a new server bought from Dell. I do have the gold support package and 4 DVD but only one has some rpm. So how what should I look for (subscription) and where should I go online with it?

If it's not part of the original purchase, can I purchase the subscription now? The server is only 1 week old.

Thanks!

You need to contact Dell regarding this then. One can purchase a subscription direct from Red Hat online, please see the first link in my earlier reply. One can also order a copy of the installation media on line.
