RHEL7 Cannot complete boot process

I have RHEL 7, was working fine. The version is: 2.6.20-2931.fc7xen

Something went wrong when the Package Updater was running. After about 10 mins, the entire system froze. I waited another 10-15 mins. Nothing was happening (hard drive was idle) and screen still frozen. I held down the power button to force a shutdown. When i try to boot now, i get an error and cannot complete the boot process:

While loading shared libraries: libselinux.so.1: cannot open shared object file: Input/output error.
Kernel Panic: not synching: Attempted to kill init!

Any suggestions?

I would first of all use a live cd of some kind, then mount and chroot into redhat and attempt to fix the selinux .rpm package

edit: maybe it just needs 'ldconfig' to be run to fix the linked libraries
