RHEL5: Kernel Upgrading Question
Hi! I just got a new laptop from work, and I am getting everything the way I like it. I have been a slackware user for five years or so, but used Red Hat before that [RH 7?]. Things were a little different then.
So, I am not trying to get too far out of control with customizations, but I would like to have a locally compiled kernel. I have installed the kernel-source, and ncurses. The two main things that I want changed are: framebuffering in the console [for sharper console resolution] and I would like the kernel compiled for my computer [em64t]. I have found a ton of tutorials about how to compile a kernel, which I am already pretty comfortable with. What I need help with is messing with the RHEL5 specific stuff, like the bootloader. Of course, I want to keep what I am working with now so that I can go back to it in case I make a mistake. Can anyone point me in the right direction? |
Try:-
Code:
man mkinitrd |
