RHEL 5 newbie question

I just installed (for the first time) RHEL 5 on my desktop yesterday.

Everything seemed fine, until when I first connected and it seemed tens of updates must be done.

I opened updater program, and it showed every update I can have.

I selected all of them, and it resulted in numerous Dependancy failure messages. And I couldn't upgrade anything.

How come all my installation process went well without one error, and I come rejected when it comes to updates?

I activated my system on RHN, and I am logged in as Root.

Please help this newbie out of helplessness....

First, don't be in a hurry to have all the updates---some of them you might NEVER need.

Assuming that RHN is setup correctly, correct repositories, etc.---I would try getting on (or a few) update(s) at a time. The dependency issue might be associated with just a few items.
