RHEL 4: Autofs direct maps

Sorry, I searched around and couldnt find an answer/topic on this.

I'm an experienced Solaris administrator and used to how autofs works, specifically in regards to direct maps.

/etc/auto_master
/- /etc/direct

/etc/auto_direct
/mnt host:/some/data/here

# automount

And off I go (providing everything else is working correctly).

Im deploying RHEL 4 servers, which now support direct maps, and would like to get the direct maps working. Ive read the README.direct file and set up the auto.master according to the instructions;

/etc/auto.master
/- auto.global

/etc/auto.global
/mnt host:/some/data/here

/etc/init.d/autofs stop/start

I can not get the direct maps to work in RHEL 4. No matter what I do or how I configure the auto.master/auto.direct files. I always get "No mountpoints are defined" and the mount is truly not there.

Now I can mount the directories manually and using indirect maps, how it's currently configured with symlinks to maintain pathing, but cant get the mounts to work using direct maps.

It seems really simple so I know I must be missing 1 step or something and I cant figure it out.

Any suggestions or ideas?

If I left out any important information or additional information is needed, just ask and I'll gladly answer them.

Thanks in advance
Chip

First view /etc/auto.master and activate corresponding line, then modify /etc/auto.misc, of course you can refer to the sample. Restart autofs service and try to access again.

Good luck.
