RHE LAMP Issues

I'm currently on a RHE 3 box. It seems to me that RHE repositories don't do a good job at providing options/choices for PHP and MYSQL versions. The repositories for RHE 3 have MYSQL 3.23.x and PHP 4.3.2. I'd like to get away from having RHE force me into a particular version of either. But on the other hand I don't have the time for config/make/make install or building my own RPMS. Does anybody know of a good source for a variety of PHP/MYSQL RPMS?

Most enterprise class distros do not introduce new features after a major release so that they maintain stability of the distro. If you need newer AMP packages, you will have to compile from source or get third party rpms. MYSQL provides rpms for RHEL, but php and apache don't so you will have to look around. Compiling AMP from source won't take you more than 15 to 30 mins depending on your hardware, so I think it could also be a good option.

Yeah, compling from source would be okay but I was hoping to find that someone is keeping a repository of up to date/latest release AMP RPMS.
