RH 9.0 glibc rpm says it needs glibc-common, but glibc-common is installed

Hello,

I'm currently running RH 9.0 on a 900 Mhtz. Celeron with 256 MB RAM. Anyway, I'm attempting to install the WINE rpm appropriate for my distro (wine-0.9.2-1rh9winehq,i686.rpm). I opened the shell and logged in as su. When I tried to install WINE (rpm -iv wine...), I was informed that I needed to upgrade glibc to a version => 2.3.2-27.9.7. So I download glibc-2.3.2-27.9.7.rpm and attempted to upgrade the package. I am then told that glibc-common = 2.3.2-11.9 is needed by (installed) glibc-2.3.2-11.9. So I download and attempt to install the glibc-common-2.3.2-11.9.rpm file and the shell tells me that the file is already installed. I've checked and glibc-common2.3.2 is installed, by not glibc-common-2.3.2-11.9. It's been a rough week. I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Thank you.

Rh9?

Can I ask why you are using that old of a distro? If I'm not mistaken, I think you may have to use rpm -uvh (the -u switch for upgrade) to upgrade the glibc package, not install it. I may be way off though, been a while since I had to deal with rpm packages.

That's It!

That was the trick. Thanks, manwichmakesameal. Largely, I'm just playing around with RH as a reminder as to why it drove me to Slackware in the first place and to see if I could tweak it to my liking (too much time on my hands, I guess). FC wouldn't install on my system so I chose RH 9. Go figure. I guess it had been a while and I forgot some of the little things. Thanks again, manwichmakesameal. Slack is looking better than ever.
