RedHat Update Icon?

I've read about the RedHat Update Icon and how it abviously updates Redhatlinux, but I have not used this function yet because my linux box is not connected to teh internet, but i just want to know something about it when i do get the internet. So my question is: Does it update everything-including the KERNEL, XFREE86, and all those major applications, and so forth. Or does it just update some of the programs on RHL? Thanx!!!

If I remember correctly it tries to update everything. It's been awhile since I used Red Hat but I think update2date does update everything it can. I remember reading how some users' systems were broken by update2date updating their glibc not very well but maybe Red Hat or Fedora has fixed that by now. Anybody, please correct me if I'm wrong about anything, which I am most likely to be.

Hi,

What up2date does, is looks at what you have installed on your system, and see's what updates are relative for your install.

It gives you the list (including kernel), and you can choose which ones you want to update. So if you wanted to update for example ethereal, but not your kernel. Then you can easily do so by selecting only ethereal.

Good luck.
