redhat linux 9.0 is hanging


I am trying to install redhat Linux9.0 .
it is hanging at a point saying " preparing to install" ....

Kindly help.

I selected all the packages to be installed .

Check the CD for errors.scratches. If the cd is okay try cleaning the CD Drive.

Howzit

when booting up to install and u get the install prompt try typing linux mediacheck this will check if your cd r OK

I have done linux mediacheck but it still hangs.
Everytime i try it hangs at different stage

can we suspect hard disc proble and how do we confirm that ?

yes hard disk can be a problem. If the disk has bad sectors it can cause the installation to hang. You can check it by selecting "check for bad blocks" while formatting your linux ext2/3 partition before installation (i.e after you have partitioned the disk using disk druid / fdisk).

Hi,
Thanks for the reply..it was a good suggestion.
somehow i overlooked that option .!!!

but it is hanging while checking the boot sector.
I tried with 3 different set of CDs.

can u advice something ?

I guess the next question would be what type of hardware are you trying to install this on?

Do you have any specs on the system or the motherboard?

I think it is your hard disk. Try formatting it in DOS / Windows and see if there are any bad sectors found. Also try running scandisk on the formatted disk.
