Question RedHat License Question...

Hello!

I'd like to know if i buy a single license for RHEL 5 (Basic 349$).
Can i install the system on as many machines as i want? and get support for only one machine?
I just wanna have redhat installed on my machines, and i dont need support for them. Just need to be part of the RHN, to get update and security notifications.

Thank You!

I would think the answer to your question is pretty obvious.

Have you thought about using CentOS instead? CentOS is RH without the logos and support and is 100% compatible with RH. Security and other updates are generally available a day after RH.

perhaps buy 1 RH license for the notifications and use CentOS for the other machines

If you don't want the support, perhaps you might want to install CentOS instead, which is a Red Hat clone (they recompile the Red Hat source packages) and distribute it as a separate distribution. Security updates are available through them too.

edit: too slow by far!

First, i wanna Thank You for your Replies.

I allready use centos, and i think its really good and stable. But i thought i could buy just one license of redhat and install it on as many machines as i want. So can i do that? or the license is just for one machine? (I dont want support for every machine)

Thank you!

Why don't you ask Redhat?

You will need to verify the terms of the licence with Red Hat - only they can give you the final answer. The last time I had anything to do with RH licences, they were issuing them on a per seat basis. They may also do a per processor licence. Odds are that if you buy one licence you can only use it on one machine or risk falling foul of the licence.
