RedHat 9.2 emu10k1 problems

I am currently running RedHat 9.2 with kernel version 2.4.20-8 and have a SoubBlaster Live sound card that I can't make it to work. I compiled my kernel so as to include support for the emu10k1 driver as a module. Then I downloaded the emu10k1-v0.20a.tar.bz2 driver. When i compile it (by make) it tells me that the drives has been compiled for 2.4.20-8custom kernel. So when I later try to detect and configure my soundcard (sndconfig) i get a kernel type mismatch and cannot continue. I have no sound at all in my pc and I would really need some help. Why this gets compiled for a version other than mine?

Thanx in advance for your time
