Question RedHat 8.0 on centrino : booting problems

Hi,
I just jumped in an no-windows world and I'm sorry to feel a bit lost..

so I installed RedHat 8 on my Fujitsu-Siemens M7400 (centrino), after I checked the compatibility list.

The installation is ok, but when I boot it stops at:

PCI_IDE: unknown IDE controller on PCI bus 00 device f9, VID=8086, DID=24ca
PCI: Device 00:1f.1 not available because of resource collisions
PCI_IDE: (ide_setup_pci_device could not enable device.

so..there is a problem with the PCI.. I don't know what to do.

If there is someone out there who knows a solution or know a link to follow, it would be very very nice (and would allow me to kick out Mr.Bill from my laptop).

Why would you still want to install RH8?
I run RH9 on a IBM R40 (Centrino) at work but if I had a choice I would rather install Fedora on it.
Your problem is probably related to the older RH8 kernel not supporting some stuff from your Centrino laptop.

Why don't you give Fedora Core 1 a try?

Thanks for the reply

The fact is that I bought "linux for dummies" (like me) and red hat 8 was inside. so i just get on with it.
but the book don't consider the problem i encounter.

I searched for solutions on the web and I found that I could change some lines in the program, but i'm such a newbie that I even understand how to access the command lines..
If I could, I don't think it's so hard to copy some lines..

I think the best thing to do is to just follow your advise and install Fedora.

thanks again!

RedHat 8.0 on centrino : booting problems Fujitsu

Chcking to see if you resolved this problem as I'm seeing the same thing on a Fujitsu Lifebook S6120 with RedHat 8.0.

I'm going to try a kernel upgrade as I've seen thread to this effect for other laptops. Apparently RH 9 can resolves this as well.

I bypassed the problem installing Fedora, since it seems that laptops with a centrino are a bit different..

Fedora worked well since the first use, so I recomend you to do the same..
