redhat 7.2 Kernel upgrade

hi guys!!

I am using redhat-7.2 with kernel 2.4.7-10. So i am planning to upgrade my kernel to 2.4.28. My question is do i need to 'uninstall' my old kernel after I installed the new ones? Any suggestion, tips, hints or recommendation before proceed with my kernel upgrade?

What about my software after the upgare? Will it affect my previous programs and softwares?

Thanks guys
