REDHAT 5.3 using MRG capability Question on RT scheduling
I am new to using MRG with Redhat. So I am hoping this question isn't silly, but I have yet to be able to figure out how to have a process set its priority and scheduling algorithm. The Realtime tuning guide says to use rtctl to set priorities and policy, but then you have to stop it and start it again. I am working on a system that needs to run real time, and I am trying to figure out how to set it to a real time scheduling algorithm, Redhat has fifo or RR, without having to start and stop system processes. sched_setscheduler comes back operation not permitted, even with MRG install and the uname -a showing "rt" at the end of the kernel version. I am just trying to figure out how to get started, and I am wondering if there is a call from within the process itself that will allow me to change the priority and the scheduler type, similar to sched_setscheduler. Maybe there is a privgrp type of setting in linux I need to update, similar to the HP-UX method of doing things, I am more familiar with HP-UX then Linux. Thanks in advance for any insight to this matrix I am facing. -Craig
