Redhat 4.8 Command Line Sleep/Standby Question

Hello,

I'm still new to this forum and linux had a question.

I have redhat 4.8 base version no gui- command line only. connected via kvm with other machines, whenever it goes to sleep or standby mode(I can't tell the difference) it won't come back unless a ps/2 mouse/keyboard is connected directly into the machine. usb won't wake it up.

I'd like to turn off the sleep/standby mode completely but when i attempted the xset command it said not found.

I was told to install xorg-x11-server-utils package but I can't find it for redhat 4.8.. and I have little experience installing rpm packages on linux.

Any help would be appreciated!

4.8 is so old that usb1 is being used most likely
the parallel port mouse/keyboard is about it

the very old RHEL4 series is about to hit End of life ( and in Feb. will hit " End of Production 3 End of Regular Life Cycle " )

seeing as it is not free and you must have a paid for support contract
have you asked Red Hat ?
http://www.redhat.com/support/

have you tried running " modprob usb "on 4.8 ?

No I don't think we pay for linux..

It's possible that usb is being used and that is why we can't wake it up- but we have it on a kvm switch using multiple machines on one monitor. The kvm won't wake it up- only ps/2 directly into the machine will.

Is there no way to turn off sleep/standby in redhat 4.8?

I read in other forums to add the following in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Code:
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "IgnoreABI" "True"
Option "BlankTime" "0"
Option "StandbyTime" "0"
Option "SuspendTime" "0"
Option "OffTime" "0"
EndSection
But the settings of xorg.conf does not last after reboot. How can I have the effect of xorg.conf in current session. xset and setterm are not present on my system.
