Red Hat Installation Can't Find Images
 

I recently downloaded and burned all 3 discs for Red Hat Linux 9, but when I go to install it (using a floppy boot-- it wouldn't boot from CD), it can't find the data on the CD or the images on my drive, though I assume I'm giving it the wrong directory or drive name for the HD Install.

So, two questions.

1) Do I need to use a program to burn the ISO for the first disc directly, or is extracting the ISO data (with WinRar) and then burning the contents onto the CD sufficient?

2) How exactly do I use Red Hat 9's Install from Hard Drive dialog properly? What do I need to know to use it? (The images are on my Windows Drive, if that matters).

I can't answer your questions because I've never installed from either CD or harddrive since I'm too lazy. Just thought I'd mention that installing via FTP is always an option if you've got the bandwidth. However, one small annoyance exists with this approach in that you have to know the ftp site and directory since the installer asks you to plug this information in. This means that you'll have to write this information down before you attempt your install. The reason I say this is annoying is because Debian allows you to select this information from a pre-defined list during installation.

Unfortunately, it took me hours to download the ISOs, and I really don't think it's worth getting onto an FTP server to download the same thing again. Thanks for the idea, though.

Just wondering, is the FTP download anywhere as large as the first disk ISO? Does it download all data from the first disc, or only those you request?

An ftp install will only download what you install.

You would do an FTP installtion by setting up a machine as an FTP server locally. Same thinf with NFS.

I would guess that you burned your CD's wrong. Check this out:

You have to burn the CD's as an image, you can't make it a data CD and just burn the iso to the CD.
