Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

i have bought red hat 7.2, and have bought every desktop up to red hat 9, and now have severn installed. after red hat 7.3, seems like a fully functional desktop version of red hat has been on the short end of the stick. like on red hat 9, you have to install the nvidia driver. many distros now will install it during the install, or even install it without asking.lot of distros will load opera, have a google search icon in the taskbar, you see none of this from redhat. why is red hat not installing the things that most people would want on a desktop system??
How do Red Hat know that the public want these things? If you have specific needs, you could try dropping an email to Red Hat and ask for them to be added.
Red Hat appears to be going for the corporate desktop market and so may not consider those things necessary. Personally, I use Mozilla. If I want a Google search, I type the search into the address bar and press the down arrow.
Plus, the Linux community is huge. It is difficult to anticipate the needs of all. The beauty of Linux is that you can customise it to your own needs.
Which distros include Opera and full Nvidia drivers by default?
mephis, libranet, and asp linux will install the nvidia driver , or ask during the install if you want to install it. also, have seen opera and google search in some of the mentioned distros too. gives these distros a nod for installing extra software and applications.
