Red Hat 9 Grub Hangs
Hello - I have just installed Red Hat 9 (Full) on an older Gateway/AMD Jabil motherboard system. The install went flawless, but when the Grub Boot Loader gets to "Real-Time Clock Driver", it hangs up forever. Have tried different hard disks, partitions. Any ideas?

Was anyone able to get this to work? I have reinstalled grub onto the MBR on the IDE drive and still no luck. The grub.conf file looks ok to me.
I have a dual boot system : Windows 2000 prof. on the IDE drive and RH Linux 9.0 on the SCSI drive. Windows crashed and we reloaded, reinstalled grub onto the MBR and still now luck. I can only boot in rescue mode. When booting the systems hangs at a grub prompt.  |
Fix for RH9 GRUB hang
This fix is related to a Gateway/Jabil AMD motherboard, part number 4000635.
The original problem was that the RH9 GRUB Boot Loader would hang during "Real-Time Clock Driver" loading. The fix was to flash the motherboard BIOS with the latest version. The original version 0AASNP03 was upgraded to 0AASNP06. The BIOS flash utility is available from the Gateway website as a self-extracting archive: 7508997.EXE Please note that an older, bootable DOS floppy is needed to perform the BIOS flash ... I just happened to have an old boot floppy to put the flash utility and BIOS image onto. Hope this information helps someone out there. Sincerely, Bruce C. Headley |
