I use Red Hat 6.1.

Recently, I had a problem with my NVidia video card. I called my Dell support and asked them to send me an exact NVidia card that I have on my system. I just wanted to install my card and make my computer work without making any changes to the config files.

I installed the replacement and when I try to bring up my computer, it advances to the point where it brings up the login user prompt. At this point the screen refreshes at a rapid clip and does not allow me to enter anything.

I know it is a very small change that I need to make to one of the config files. I will appreciate any suggestions.

How old is the system you are running this on? It can't be too old if Dell can still send you another video card under warranty. Red Hat 6.1 is at or around 6 years old....have you considered updating to something more modern that would most likely support the hardware a little better?

Anyway...I can't remember what exactly the filename is in RH 6.1, but I know in more recent releases that the X configuration file is XF86Config..see if you have that file available.
