recovering root password
 

I have a red hat 9 installed in my system. I forget my root password. Is there any way to recover my root password or log in to my system. The only account in my system is the root account.

This is for debian, but I think it'll be helpful.

all u need is to reboot into single user mode then type passwd and your in..........

For your problem i can give you specific steps for this problem

When the PC starts just press "e" then move down to the second option press space and type init 1 and press enter press "b" and your pc will boot

as soon as your pc boots

write vi /etc/passwd and the remove the "x" in the root line it will look somewhat like this

root:x: <- just remove this "x" reboot your pc with init 6 and now start your pc and login it with user root and just you are done without password

so i think this will help you out
