Question recent up2date broke some things

i woke up one morning and found that the automated up2date broke a few things on my system.

1. with a running 2.4.22 kernel suddenly my xwindows won't go.
X with 2.4.20-20.9 is still fine. (grub menu selection)
I rebuilt 2.4.22 but still xserver crashes.
2. removing or applying ac power locks up the PC now.
3. kde multiple wallpaper doesn't change on schedule.

I can live with all these things but ...

Has anyone else seen this problem??

tia
