Re: qmail as exchange for sendmail server

Not really sure what you wanting to do here. QMail and Sendmail are basically the same or serve the same purpose, they're both MTA's. Why would you need both running? Or am I following you correctly?

ii) how to create email users with out adding them in the /etc/passwd

My suggestion, use LDAP

iii) how can i use a third party database such as mysql to store the user ids.

Same suggestion as before, use LDAP, no need for a DB running as well, unless you just want it for informational/file storage, etc.

iv) which file do i edit to create a mail disclaimer (global footer) to all my outgoing emails.

It would depend on what your going to use, QMail or Sendmail..

hey tricky kid

hello tricky kid
Thanks for your reply

i) i want to use a qmail/sendmail as an exchange server to get mails from the remote sendmail and serve the local users. which one is suggested and how to do it.

firstly my sendmail server is parked at my ISP.... ok, i read some where that one can use qmail as a local mail gateway to access the external mailserver which stores emails internally so that the internal users can use it..our company wants to disallow the end users from using the internet at that same time they have to get their emails so thought this set up would work...

iv) which file do i edit to create a mail disclaimer (global footer) to all my outgoing emails.

which file for qmail and which file for sendmail

please help me get this info
