That is a bit old, please review (see my post #6 in the tread):

Also one has to engage one's brain, this is a guide and only a guide. One has to think about changes in what is said in the guide compared to what is actually installed, the differences are important in getting this right.
$ /usr/sbin/alternatives --display java
java - status is manual.
link currently points to /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_03/bin/java
/usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.4.2-gcj/bin/java - priority 1
/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_03/bin/java - priority 2
Current `best' version is /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_03/bin/java.
$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_03"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_03-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 1.6.0_03-b05, mixed mode)
$ cat /etc/profile.d/java.sh
export JAVA_HOME="/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_03/bin"
export JAVA_PATH="$JAVA_HOME"
export PATH="$PATH:$JAVA_HOME"
If you need additional help post the output from the commands in the guide.
